Ixia
Belisar x Charites
KWPN Studbook #90.7115
Keur Elite

Ixia was purchased by Dove Creek Farm in December 1999 from the breeder Gerard C. Vervoorn in Brakel, The Netherlands, and imported to the United States. Gerard Vervoorn succeeds his late father, C. G. Vervoorn, who has been listed in the WBFSH rankings of top dressage breeders. In the 2001 the KWPN published for the fist time the index of the Top 250 Dressage Mares. Ixia was ranked #30. In addition, her dam Charites was #1, her daughter Noah was #19 and her granddam Lies was #48. No other damline on the list is represented by four succeeding generations! No other mare on the list is in the United States. Not only that, but in 2003, two other mares descended from Charites were added to the Top 50. In the 2003 index, Charites is again #1 and is joined by daughter Malrove and her daughter Reseda (ster, prok, x Cocktail), who competed in L-dressage in 2002.

In 2003, an incredible total of nine mares are descended from the same damline are listed in the top 50, with many others included in the Top 250 index.

Descendents of the breeding family 28 include many international and national dressage performers. There are few damlines in Holland with this many keur, preferent and prestatie horses in it.

Awarded the predicate designation keur at her inspection, Ixia's highest quality X-rays gained her the further distinction of elite. She completed the mare station test at Deurne with excellent marks in dressage, plus a 10 for stable behavior. She was selected for the PAVO Cup competition for young horses in 1994 and 1995. After beginning to win points at Z level dressage, her performance career was halted when she broke her shoulder in a pasture accident.

Ixia is a very attractive, tall, modern, long-lined mare with a strong body and legs. The dark chestnut dappled mare has an excellent topline and use of the hindleg. Her quiet demeanor understates her excellent temperament and character. This is a wonderful mare that can produce top quality offspring.

Family:
Ixia is sired by Belisar. She is a half-sister to Houston, a producer of top-quality dressage horses much in demand at the moment.  The approved KWPN stallion Kroonjuweel is her full brother.
Ixia’s oldest offspring, Noah (ster, sport dressage x Jazz), was the 2000 Reserve Champion M Level horse in Holland and competed at Z-2 level dressage in 2003. Both offspring born in the United States, Tiastan (x Neostan) and Unanimous (x Olympic Ferro), have been selected in 2001 and 2002 for the USDF Breeders Championships. In 2002, both received Reserve Champion year end awards from the Northwest Sporthorse Breders Association.

Charities, her dam, was the winner of the provisional keur mare class at the UTV in Utrecht. Tragically, her breeder and owner suffered a heart attack at the keuring, and the mare did not compete in the IBOP test. As a result, she could not receive the predicate of keur and remained a ster mare. However, she has earned the predicates of preferent (three times) and prestatie (two times) on the basis of her excellent offspring and their performance rankings.

Charites sire is Roemer, a preferent stallion who is top-ranked as a producer of dressage horses in the United States, The Netherlands, and the world. He contributed much to the early Dutch Warmblood breeding program in the United States after his purchase by Iron Spring Farm.

Charites has been an excellent producer with a top foal every year. Glaucus (x Belisar) was not approved as a stallion, but did very well in Z-2 level dressage, winning 26 points. He also represented Germany in the Young Riders program. Hibiscus (x Belisar), a third ring stallion, performed at Z-1 dressage, winning 5 points. Ixia (see above). Juneau (x Belisar) competed at Z-1 and earned 14 points. The stallion Kroonjuweel (x Belisar) was the fifth place stallion in the Top Ten of the Hengstenkeuring (Stallion Show) and became a KWPN-approved stallion. He was injured in the stallion test, but is now competing at Z-2, preparing for Prix St. Georges. In the latest index of offspring evaluations of stallions, his get have excellent marks for conformation and gaits. Lotus (x Donnerhall) is a ster mare, as is Malrove (x Havidoff), Nadine (elite, xTCN Partout), and Orchis (x Jazz). Nadine was selected for the Z-2 Championships and was the winner of the Sport Mare Championship in 2002.  In 2003, she won the Z-2 KNHS Indoor Championship.

Lies, Ixia's granddam, is by the keur Gelders stallion Eros, a sire found in the pedigree of many top Dutch dressage horses. Lies is a keur mare who has the awarded predicates of preferent and prestatie. She earned an 85 in her mare test.

She has produced the ster mares Pinksterbloem (x Lt. Generaal) and Euphorbia (x Vico). The ster gelding Faust (x Belisar) also won 5 points at M-1 level dressage. The keur mares Tamarinde (x Meteoor), who received an 89 riding test score and competed at Z-2, and Charities (see above).

The gelding Windsor (x Roemer) jumped at B level, earning 16 points and competed in international level Grand Prix dressage, winning the Grand Prix class at Saumur, France. The gelding Adonis (x Roemer) was started at Z-2 dressage. The stallion Bommel (x Saluut) performed successfully in dressage and jumping, winning the Rotterdam CHIO Championship, and was sold to Finland.

Fresia, the great-granddam, is by the preferent Gelders stallion Wachtmeester. She was awarded the Kroon and preferent designations.

Fresia produced the ster mare Zinni (x Saluut), and the keur mares Lies (see above) Madelief (x Ishan), Sanseveria (x Fresco), and Wendelien (x Onyx). Sansiveria was also awarded the predicate preferent and earned an 83 in her mare test, and is the dam of the KWPN approved stallion Zevenster (x H Alme Z). Wendelien produced the Grand Prix horse Finesse (keur, sport dressage, x Aktion), ranked #3 on the 2003 list of Top dressage mares. The mare Josefien (x Chronis), #15 on the 2003 list and a competitor at Z-2 dressage. The gelding Habibi,  was a winner of the Junior Young Rider European Championships. Wendelien produced Orchidee (keur, sport dressage, x Aktion), the 2003 #33 mare. Wendelien was also preferent and prestatie, earning a 90 on her test, 6 points at Z-1 level dressage, and competed to Z-2 level. Fresia also produced the approved stallion Noordpool (x Fresco).

Zinni van Wittenstein, the great-great-granddam, was by the keur Gelders stallion Luitenant. She produced the ster mares Gravin (x Wachtmeester) who is the great-granddam of the approved stallion Inspecteur (x Darwin);  Edelweiss (x Wachtmeester); Doornroos (preferent x Wachtmeester) who was the granddam of the Grand Prix competitor Chantor du Bomence; Orchidee (x Fresco) and Tinni (x Onyx), who scored 77 on her mare test. Zinni also produced the Kroon preferent mare Fresia (see above); the keur mare Sinni, who scored an 80 on her test; and the approved stallion Ivoor (x Eros).
